70°!!!

February 4th, 2008

Yes, 70° was the high, it is not a fluke. I have been looking at other stations data and in Blue Springs, KC0PCQ reported 70° as a high too, Lee’s Summit official weather station got to 71°. This is the warmest day of the year already, and it is just February, interesting facts indeed. But what’s even more interesting is that tomorrow it is supposed to be snowing about the same time as I am writing this now. It holds true what Mark Twain mentions,  if you don’t like the weather, just wait five minutes.

Well, we’ll see what weather holds for us this upcoming week. Glad my station is working well still for the most part.

We’re Back!

January 19th, 2008

Well, in short, we’re back online with data updates from the weather station. I think it’s a combination of problems, but for the non-technical bits, it was a matter of most likely, fixing the connector combined with the right Serial connection Read the rest of this entry »

In Due Time

October 29th, 2007

In due time the site will be back to full operation of what it once lustered. The only problem, no wind data will be available unless another solution to my problem arises. Read the rest of this entry »

Total Rain 2007 Midway Report

June 3rd, 2007

So far, this month, we have had .92 inches of rain at this gauge. It helps to confirm that my numbers are real close when I have two other stations up now in the area in the CWOP network. One of us will usually get something more or less. And the funny thing is too, we all have all the 3 major brands. I have the LaCrosse series, Ben, KC0PCQ has the Oregon Scientific, and Tim, KC0NIN runs Davis. I like Read the rest of this entry »

Make my yard a pool!

May 9th, 2007

A little delayed on replying, but I was fixing the serial port issue that brought down live data, however since the computer had two, the other one works so for now until I have to get a serial-usb adapter, this is working.

Since I began really keeping logs and records, which I can say was officially since March 2006, the most rain we have received here in a single month was August 2006 with 5.4 inches. Right now for this month alone, we stand at 4.8 inches with 4.01 inches just from the deluge weekend. This is just the beginning of the month and we’re bound to have more rain. That is 0.6 inches shy of the all time month record of 5.4 inches from August 2006, talk about a lot of rain!

I am saddened to hear of all of this flooding. Being from Des Moines, I have experienced major flooding from the flood of 1995 there. In 1997 I do believe, the Missouri River flooded along 291 and old 210. So I have seen them both in their magnitudes and all affected the areas greatly. I pray we don’t get massive flooding, but it seems to be on a 10 year cycle though doesn’t it? I mean, this is the beginning of the month, we have at least 22 days left and all of them carry potential for more rain, and more heavy rain since this is the severe weather season.

I pray you and your families are safe this year and don’t suffer. I know I can’t afford it hear that’s for sure. But no matter the cause, remain Vigilant!

Severe Thunderstorm Watch - NWS Issues

April 25th, 2007

Severe Thunderstorm Watch was just issued for Johnson county. While checking the websites, NWS seems to fail to appear at the moment. One site link said failure to connect to database, so they could be having some hosting issues. If Johnson county just to the south of us was issued the Thunderstorm Watch, and the last radar images I saw of the line of storms was moving due north, I would assume that we would be affected in some manner, so I’m going to modify the home page to reflect that and show a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the night, even if there isn’t any issued from NWS, I’d like to do that for you, my visitors, for just an extra measure of assurance.

NOAA Warning Zoning System

April 25th, 2007

NOAA is restructuring their advisories warning zones a bit to make it more direct instead of general, such as a whole county would be included in the past, as they have done with the polygon limiting certain parts of the county to the effected parts, the new zoning system is in suit to help be more direct in relation to this new polygon system. Until the software catches up with NOAA on this one, unless I manually put it in there every time if I am able to while at school, the advisories and warnings may or may not show. http://www.gvwx.com/wx4.php is our advisory page, I advise checking that to confirm there is either something or nothing until I give the thumbs up everything is back to automation. I do apologize for this inconvenience, but as you can see, they are trying to do their best as well to inform the directly related parties.
